World Record In Half Marathon

Abraham Kiptum of Kenya broke the men’s world record in Spain. The 29-year-old clocked 58:18 at the Valencia Half Marathon.

Having improved his career best time to 59:09 in Copenhagen six weeks ago, Kiptum went beyond his expectations in Valencia where he arrived with his first sub-59 minutes in mind. The Kenyan reached the 10km in 28:02 and the 15km in 41:40 on his way to the world record time of 58:18, slicing 5 seconds off the previous record held by Zersenay Tadese of Eritrea since 2010.

Ethiopian athletes followed Abraham Kiptum on the podium. Jemal Yimer finished in 58:33 to take the second place, Abadi Hadis was third with 58:44.
