Swimmers Head To Çanakkale
Çanakkale Strait, also known as the Dardanelles, will host the first edition of the Troy Open Water Swimming Race on Sunday, 29 July.
On the occasion of the 20th anniversary of Troy’s entry into the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage List, Turkish Sports Foundation is organising the Troy Open Water Swimming Race, which is planned to be held annually. The participants will stroke from the Second Kordon to Kepez Municipality Beach. The race course of an approximately 5km distance passes over the sunken Mesudiye Ironclad, lying 12 meters below the sea surface since the Battle of Gallipoli during World War 1.
The entries are
limited to one thousand swimmers on the first year of the event. The race will
include twelve age categories in men and women each, and the timing services will
be provided by Depar Timing.
