    Fifth Festival In Rumkale

    Rumkale, where the first settlements date back to the Paleolithic Age, will host the water sports enthusiasts on 25 September.

    Following the very successful three editions between 2017 and 2019, Gaziantep Metropolitan Municipality, the organiser of the Rumkale Water Sports Festival, had to cancel the event due to the pandemic in 2020, however, the Festival made a thrilling return last year. The fifth edition to be held on Sunday, 25th of September, will once again include dragon boat, water polo and swimming races.

    Rumkale, the fortress that the Festival named after, is situated across a peninsula at the confluence of the Fırat River and the Merzimen Stream. The event area is accessible by boat from the Kasaba Village, 25 kilometres to the Yavuzeli district of Gaziantep.

    Countdown At the Bosphorus

    Over 2400 swimmers are looking forward to the 34th Bosphorus Cross-Continental Swimming Race to be held on Sunday, 21 August.

    Annually staged by the Turkish Olympic Committee since 1989, the event will gather 2441 swimmers from five continents this year. The participants will enter the water in Kanlıca on the Asian side of Istanbul on 21 August and attempt to crossing to the European side where the finish area is located in Kuruçeşme Cemil Topuzlu Park. Depar Timing will provide the timing services for the 6.5km event as well as transmitting the results to the LED screens.

    Having been selected the Best Open Water Swimming Race by the World Open Water Swimming Association in 2016, this year’s Bosphorus Cross-Continental Swimming Race received about 2000 domestic applications, and a total of 1243 swimmers were declared eligible to participate following the qualifications races in Ankara, Gaziantep, Izmir and Istanbul. The overseas quota, on the other hand, was filled within 12 hours after the entries opened, and 1198 swimmers from abroad will be travelling to Istanbul.

    The participants can collect their race kits that include swimming caps with competition numbers and the timing transponders at the Kuruçeşme Cemil Topuzlu Park from 10:00 to 19:00 on 18-20 August. Kit collection will also be available on the race day between 07:00 and 08:30. The last boat to transport the participants to the start area in Kanlıca is scheduled to leave Kuruçesme at 08:50. The time limit to finish the race is two hours after the last competitor enters the water.

    Strokes Heading To Black Sea

    Swimming season resumes in Zonguldak. The 3rd edition of the Karadeniz Eregli Open Water Swimming Race is scheduled for 31 July.

    The event, where the timing services will be provided by Depar Timing, has initially been limited to 300 participants, however, as the quota was reached in a very short period of time and the demand endured, a total of 354 swimmers were eventually accepted in three races. 143 participants are registered with the 1.5km race while the 3km will see 128 swimmers and the 5km, the longest race of the day, will accommodate 83. All races will start at 10:00 on Sunday, 31 July, with the time limit being 2 hours 30 minutes for all.

    Depar Timing At Water Sports

    Aquathlon and swimming races incorporated in the Istanbul Water Sports Festival will be held on 2 July and 3 July respectively.

    The participants of the aquathlon will meet at the Maltepe Orhangazi City Park on Saturday to swim 1km, followed by a 5km run. A prize purse is offered for the top three finishers in “16-18 year-olds” and in the “19 years and over” category. There will also be separate classifications up to 70+ age group.

    Swimmers from 12 years of age will be racing over a distance of 1.5km on Sunday morning. The event is limited to 500 participants who are required to complete the race course in one hour at the latest.

    Triathletes To Meet In Beylikdüzü

    Istanbul Sprint Triathlon, one of the important events of the season, will be held at Gürpınar race course on Sunday, 19 June.

    Jointly organised by the Turkish Triathlon Federation, Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Directorate of Youth and Sports, Sports Istanbul and the Beylikdüzü Municipality, the event will gather triathletes of 19 years of age and over. The participants will start the day by swimming 750m, followed by 20km cycling and a 5km run. The event offers a prize purse for the top five overall male and female finishers.
